A Typical day at camp

To be honest, there is no such thing as a “typical” day at camp. The schedule and activities vary based on the day, the weather, and the age group.

Below is an example of what a day in Expedition Camp (5th/6th grade) might look like.

7:00 am- Wake up and get ready

8:00 am- Breakfast

8:45 am- Morning introduction

9:00 am- Adventure Time

Spotlight: adventure time

Adventure Time is the meat and potatoes of our days at camp. During this time, campers get to experience adventure activities with their small group. The activities available to each camp depend on the age of the campers. As campers return to Gasper and get older, they will be able to do higher and more challenging activities. For more details of all of the adventure activities offered at Gasper River, please visit the Summer Camp Activities page.

10:30 am- Bible Study

11:00 am- Tracks

Spotlight: Tracks

Tracks are a something new we added last summer and they were a hit! At the beginning of the week, campers will get to select which track they would like to participate in and will get to do activities within that track throughout the week. Some examples of the electives we may offer are team sports, arts & crafts, music, nature, science, and disc golf.

11:30 am- Lunch

12:15 pm- Faith Ex

Spotlight: Faith Ex

Faith Ex (short for Faith Exploration) is our faith teaching time each day. Under our new Small Group Model, Faith Ex will consist of a brief and interactive teaching (such as a game, video, or talk), followed by an in-depth discussion led by a staff member within the campers’ small groups.

12:45 pm- F.O.B. Time

Spotlight: F.O.B. time

F.O.B. (Flat on Back) is quiet rest time each day. We strongly encourage campers to use this time to take a nap, but they are able to do any activities that are quiet and can be done in their bunks, such as reading, journaling, drawing, or writing letters to family.

2:00 pm- Canteen & Free Time

Spotlight: Canteen & Free time

Free Time is unstructured free play time. Campers can play various games such as gaga ball, 9 Square in the Air, disc golf, basketball, soccer, etc. They can also draw with sidewalk chalk, sit and chat with friends at the picnic tables, or just run around.

Canteen is where campers can buy snacks and drinks using their Canteen Cards, which are purchased during registration or at Check In on Sunday. During the afternoon, we offer less-sugary options such as chips, string cheese, fruit snacks, water, and Gatorade. Snacks such as candy, sodas, and chocolate are offered during evening canteen.

3:00 pm- Adventure Time

4:30 pm- Mass

5:30 pm- Dinner

6:15 pm- Praise & Worship

6:45 pm- Evening Social
